Veterinarian (Full-time) at the Animal Care Centre of Strathmore

We are looking to add a new associate to our team! Our busy days are full of variety, we have relaxed on call hours and plenty opportunities to learn and be mentored a fantastic team. We are looking for someone who wants to make this location, so close to Calgary and the mountains, home. Our philosophy of providing the best medicine and care for both patients and clients has earned us a valuable presence in the community. Veterinarian (Part-time)
Seeking an experienced part-time veterinarian (24 hours per week) to provide professional veterinary services. The successful candidate will provide care to sick and injured animals, complete the preventive health program and disease investigations.

The position does have the potential for full time hours with other opportunities.

Qualifications:
- A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree (or equivalent)
- Full licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Alberta
- A minimum of three years of clinical experience
- A minimum of two years of zoological medicine experience with a strong preference for completion of an internship and/or residency program in zoological medicine.
- Board certification or board eligibility for certification in zoological medicine would be a strong asset

The successful candidate will:
- Provide professional veterinary services which may include;
  • Participation in the preventive health care program
  • Conduct regularly scheduled vaccination and preventive care programs to maintain health of animals and guard against communicable diseases
  • Conducting effective quarantine and testing procedures for all incoming animals, and carry out pre-shipment testing to ensure health of collection, prevent spread of disease, and comply with government regulations.
  • Providing emergency medical attention to ill or injured zoo animals.
  • Providing 24 hour a day on call duties (shared) for veterinary care of the collection
  • Maintaining complete medical records on all clinical and pathology cases in the ZIMS program and in accordance with ABVMA guidelines
  • Assisting with nutrition, reproduction, and species reintroduction programs, and foster collaboration within institution, and between institutions, to achieve common goals.
  • Assisting with externship program, and provide mentorship to veterinary students o Assisting with the pathology program including postmortem duties.
  • Provide additional services to and as required 
- Maintain and comply with all regulatory requirements
- May oversee other staff (technical and support) provided by Animal Care Solutions 

Compensation:
- $38-52.00/hour  (Dependent on experience and accreditations)
